Doctor of Philosophy in Theatre, Theatre for Youth - admission requirements

Steps to apply

1. Apply to graduate education

You must meet all admission requirements of graduate education.

2. School of Film, Dance and Theatre requirements

In addition to the requirements outlined on the Graduate Education web site, the School of Theatre and Film requires additional application materials for the Ph.D. degree. These materials should be sent electronically to Graduate Coordinator, Jeanette Beck, at jeanette.beck@asu.edu:

  • Statement of purpose
    • In this statement, applicants should cogently explain their research and educational philosophies and future career goals. After reading these statements the Ph.D. faculty should understand not only applicants' current passions, but also why the Child Drama program at ASU would be an appropriate fit to meet their educational, philosophical and scholarly goals.
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Sample of scholarly writing
  • Three letters of recommendation from scholars familiar with your work

Interview: While not required, we strongly advise prospective students to visit the ASU campus to meet with students and faculty. We do require a virtual interview. To set up either a virtual or campus interview contact: Dr. Stephani Etheridge Woodson at 480.965.5214 or swoodson@asu.edu

Application deadline: Jan. 15, 2021
