Performance in the Borderlands

Performance in the Borderlands is a presenting, public programming and education initiative dedicated to the understanding and promotion of cultural performance in the borderlands. Our work posits the borderland as a conceptual landscape that embodies political and identity borders. The diversity of cultures, histories and artistic traditions in the borderlands inspires new ways of thinking about performance and art, which open new meanings for identity and social engagement.

Urban Sol

A cross-institute initiative, Urban Sol harnesses the resources of the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts to promote the urban artist culture of DJs, MCs, graffiti artists and dancers in the Valley of the Sun. A rich, uncharted collaboration among scholars, performers and urban artists, the partnership encourages us to take notice of the urban art movement and the importance of their contribution to teaching and research of the arts.

Hollywood Invades Tempe

Film and Media Production students at ASU are offered a unique blend of ethical training and artistic perspectives. During these film events, top filmmakers conduct live video conferences with audiences for a Q&A session following the screening of representative work. Adam Collis, visiting professor of Film Directing and creator of the film series, moderates.

Tuition and Paying for College

Thousands of dollars in scholarships and fellowships are awarded to Herberger Institute students annually. Money generated for these scholarships and fellowships come from the generous donations of our alumni, parents and friends. Scholarships are awarded and re-evaluated annually.

Interdisciplinary Studies

Whether you pursue a certificate or degree program, or select interdisciplinary studies as a minor, use the program as an opportunity to narrow your educational focus as you follow your own path to personal and career success.
