Biography
Adair Landborn, Clinical Assistant Professor and Curator of Cross-Cultural Dance Resources Collections at ASU, is a creative artist and choreographer in both contemporary and flamenco dance genres. Landborn has taught at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, Hong Kong; Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle, WA; Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT; and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She has choreographed over fifty contemporary works and produced ten full-length concerts, including several concerts for her New York-based Women In Cahoots Dance Theater. As artistic director and performer with the Peña Flamenca de Taos, Landborn produced performances highlighting flamenco's cultural practices, song style, and improvisational structures. She taught her original method for the notation of flamenco dance at Festival Internacional de Flamenco in Albuquerque, NM; Escuela Nacional de la Danza Nellie y Gloria Campobello in Mexico City; and Universidad de Cádiz in Cadiz, Spain. Her many scholarly publications include the book Flamenco and Bullfighting: Movement, Passion and Risk in Two Spanish Traditions and an article, “Contextualizing Martha Graham’s El Penitente,” that was selected by the Dance Notation Bureau in New York City to provide historical background for the labanotation score of Graham's 1941 work.
Education
Adair Landborn has a B.F.A. in modern dance from the U.S.International Univerisy, School of Performing and Visual Arts in San Diego, CA; an M.F.A. Dance/Theater from the University of Arizona in Tucson; and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in dance anthropology and somatic studies from Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, OH. She is Certified as a Laban Movement Analyst through the University of Washington in Seattle.
