Biography

Chris LaMont is a multi-award winning independent writer, director and producer.  He is the one of the Founders of the Phoenix Film Festival and has taught film production and analysis at the ASU School of Film, Dance and Theatre for the past twelve years.

Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University and after graduating  co-wrote and directed Film Club, a parody of Fight Club that was an internet sensation, sold into distribution and DVD, and featured on CNN Headline News and on the home page of MSN.com. 

The independent feature films that he has directed and/or produced include:  The Best Movie Ever Made, Writer’s Block, 14 Days in America, Netherbeast Incorporated, My Apocalypse, The Graves, Justice Served and Postmarked.

In 2015, his screenplay Road Rage, written with Joe Russo, was named in the Top 10 Finalists for Horror/Thrillers in the Final Draft Big Break Contest.  The script finished in the Top 1% of over seven thousand entrants.  In 2016, they were named “Top 100 New Writers in Hollywood” by industry insider The Tracking Board, and in 2017 - their screenplay Soul Mates was named to The Blood List for unproduced Horror screenplays, The Hit List for unproduced Hollywood screenplays, and then optioned in 2017. He is currently repped by The Gersh Agency and Hollander Entertainment.

In 2000, he started the Phoenix Film Festival, which has grown to be the largest film festival in Arizona, and is a continual Best of Phoenix winner from both the Arizona Republic/AZ Central and the New Times.  It has been named one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the United States” by Moviemaker magazine. 

He also started the non-profit Phoenix Film Foundation, served as both Chairman of the Board and the President for a combined fifteen years and currently serves as the President of the National Advisory Board. He also founded the Phoenix Film Society and the local chapter of the national filmmaker organization IFP – Phoenix (Independent Filmmaker Project).   He also co-founded the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival and the Arizona Student Film Festival.

He has been teaching at Arizona State University at the School of Film, Dance & Theatre in the Herberger Institue of Design and the Arts since 2003.

He completed his first book, Great Comedy Films: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Funny Movies, a comprehensive overview of American Comedy Film since the beginning of cinema in 1892. The book is going into its second edition.

He has been married to his beautiful wife, Lisa for many years, has two occasionally adorable children, Luke and Lindsay, and they have two cats. They live in Phoenix, Arizona and enjoy the dry heat.
