Biography

Born and raised in Singapore, Sarah Tan is now a Tempe-based interdisciplinary performer, director, and director. Sarah graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in Theater Arts and a concentration in Educational Studies, and is currently in her final year as an MFA student in Theatre for Youth at Arizona State University.

As an artist with a deep passion for building spaces of inclusivity, Sarah believes in the importance of creating relevant and impactful work (on stage and in classrooms) that bring together performance, education, and social justice. Her personal work strongly leans in the direction of devised theatre, utilizing this theatrical form as a tool to artistically communicate the complexities of personal experiences through interdisciplinary performance.

As an educator, Sarah has worked with a range of age groups, the youngest being four, and the oldest 61. She has loved working with every age group and has found that there is much to be learned from every individual regardless of age. In the future, she hopes to continue finding opportunities to be an educator in the performing arts while continuing her training as an artist on a global scale.
