Involvement in extracurricular activities is highly encouraged and we welcome the opportunity to guide you in your exploration student-led clubs, campus events and leadership programs to ensure you are getting the most out of your time as a film, dance or theatre student.

Student Life

Each of our students is a key component in making the School of Film, Dance and Theatre and the Herberger Institute community strong and vibrant.

Whether you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student needing vital information to help narrow university options or you are a current undergraduate or graduate student needing advice on classes, internships or job opportunities, the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is here to meet your needs.

We have more than 400 employees to make your college journey successful and enjoyable. Our talented faculty, supportive staff, outstanding facilities and unlimited opportunities make the Herberger Institute the ideal place to practice, learn and grow.

The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts Student Council believes in serving the institute as a whole. We are an organization that uses programs and student-inspired activities to support film, dance and theatre students throughout the different phases of their academic journey. Working closely with the institute and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), we connect the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts to ASU while creating an environment that is understanding of our different creative paths.

The advising team in the Herberger Institute is cross-trained in all design and arts disciplines and lead advisors in each area specialize in helping you navigate your undergraduate curriculum. Herberger Institute undergraduates are required to meet with an advisor prior to their first semester at ASU and will have required advising through the completion of 25 credits or if their GPA becomes low to ensure degree progress. Students are encouraged to continue meeting with an advisor through senior year.

The Herberger Institute Advising Office is located in the Design South building (CDS) room 101, which is located near the SW corner of Forest and University. Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled in advance or students may utilize our walk-in hours.
